Divorces or break ups can be messy and an emotional time in everyone's life. They can take a toll on the children the most. When children are involved in a divorce, the parents sometimes tend to be more selfish and try to keep the other person from seeing the children on a fair and equal basis. Sometimes when the parent who is ordered to pay child support falls behind the custodial parent uses that as an excuse as to why the other parent cannot see the children.
This is why it is so important to add Child Visitation to a divorce decree. Whether it is decided through a joint settlement or through a judge's decree. The children did not ask for a divorce and they most certainly wish it did not happen so why punish them and deprive the of seeing each parent.
If you are the person who is the petitioner of the divorce, make a fair visitation agreement that the respondent will be happy with. Make the child visitation the one thing in the divorce that is agreed on. This makes the divorce process a little easier on the kids. Sit down with your ex and you can have the lawyers there as well to help come to a fair schedule that everyone can live by.
Once a judge has signed off on the divorce it is in each parties best interest to follow the schedule. Having a visitation schedule works because each party follows the order. What ends up happening in some cases is if the one ex has a new boyfriend or girlfriend sometime child visitation becomes altered, as we mentioned before if the party ordered to pay support falls behind , child visitation is withheld.
Avoid this at all costs, if child visitation is withheld the ex can go to family court and a judge could order you to stick to the visitation order and in some cases sometimes the order is changed and even custody can change. Do what is best for the kids and that is to have both of their parents in their lives. It will create less drama and less problems if everyone can work together.
